August
7, 2003 - In one of the most popular elections in
Pacific Coast League history, baseball fans worldwide
have selected Dinger from Sacramento as the League's
best mascot. After a week's worth of copious voting, the
ballots were meticulously counted at Coast League
headquarters into the wee hours of the night before it
was determined Dinger was the winner.
The River Cat edged Albuquerque's popular mascot Orbit
in the poll which asked Pacific Coast League fans to
choose their favorites from all 16 League-wide. Also
showing up strong in the balloting was Edmonton's Homer,
who came in third, and Sox the Fox from Colorado
Springs, who finished fourth.
When asked about the prestigious honor, the
always-modest Dinger chose not to comment, but instead
issued a hearty wave while swinging his tail.
The PCL accolade could serve as a launching pad for the
mascot, who is expected to announce his candidacy for
Governor of California sometime next week.
